Overlooking the Upper Rhône Valley, Bugey and its vineyards, the Grand Colombier offers an extraordinary view, with Mont Blanc in in the distance. When skies are clear, you can enjoy a simultaneous view over the alpine lakes of Annecy, Bourget and Geneva.

There are several ways to reach the peak. The most experienced cyclists will attempt to conquer the pass. Two of the four access points are located on the slope of the Jura Mountains, these are Lochieu and Virieu-le-Petit. They form part of the most difficult climbs in France, with a a 22% gradient in places.

However, less sporty visitors will be glad to know that access is not exclusively limited to cyclists. There is also open and clear access to the peak from April to November, if you prefer to go by car. From the pass, you can follow a path that will take you to the peak in twenty minutes. The peak and its viewpoint, featuring an orientation table, will leave you with fond memories.

Finally, the Grand Colombier and its surrounding areas offer many hiking and mountain biking trails. In winter, the landscape can be fully enjoyed by going snowshoe hiking. So, don’t hesitate! Somewhere among the Jura peaks or towards the valley, you are sure to find a route that is suitable for you.
