Lamoura Lake, Ideal to Visit Any Time of Year
A few kilometres from Rousses lies the Lamoura Lake. Close to the Lamoura village centre, this high-altitude lake offers something for everyone, both in winter and in summer.
An Area for Discovery
When the warm weather returns, you often see many visitors along the banks of the Lamoura Lake. The shallow water of the lake and the well-kept beach make it safe for bathing. Well-managed hiking trails allow you to walk or mountain bike around the lake and give you a broad view of this natural wonder. The lake is also the starting point for strolls to explore the combe of the lake.
In winter, people enjoy this preserved area by going cross-country skiing or snowshoe hiking. The pistes bordering the lake are ideal for introducing beginners to the pleasures of skiing. This lake is also the starting point for Transjurassienne, the famous cross-country skiing race, which is held every year in February.
A Natural, Preserved Site
Lamoura Lake has been designated as a Natura 2000 area, in order to protect the neighbouring peatland. This site is very rich in wildlife and plant life. Furthermore, the aquatic life, including pike, brown trout and brown frogs, are a testament to the biological quality of the lake’s water.
